About the films:
‘Kahanibaaz’ by Sandeep Varma starring Ashish Vidyarthi and Sakshi Tanwar is an interesting thriller featuring a cab driver and a couple on a journey to Shirdi. The story of ‘Kahanibaaz’ is full of suspense, drama, and mystery. On the road trip to Shirdi the cab driver tells a story to the passengers and seeks their opinion in a given situation. Their answers put them in a spot as they get unexpected reactions from the driver. This intriguing short showcases the various shades of the protagonists’ personality and how the other characters deal with the situation.
‘A Happy End’, by Adoor Gopalakrishnan, starring Padmapriya is a perfect shot film with an unconventional an attention-grabbing storyline. Three unemployed yet resourceful men launch an innovative private company that caters exclusively to clients on the verge of suicide. The idea works on the psychological truism that those attempting suicide could be dissuaded if handled with tact and sensitivity. The story takes a turn when high-strung client bent upon dying approaches them, not prepared for such an eventuality, they try every trick in their repertoire to turn him away, but to no avail. Frustrated, they perform a death ritual and convince the client that he is already dead and has turned into a ghost. What happens after he leaves is what will make the audience sit back and watch if it turns out to be ‘A Happy End’ or not.
‘Waterbaby’ by Pia Shah, starring Viraj Khemani and Gracy Singh is a perfect short showcasing the story of how the arrival of a new girl in school compels a shy 11-year-old boy to face his greatest fear – water. A mysterious drawing book, a water-controlling superhero and an unlikely pet accompany him on a little journey of courage.
‘Toyhouse’ by Akram Hassan is a perfect short film drama focusing on the identity and migration, conclusively emphasising the unsettling reality that, aren’t we all living in a big TOYHOUSE only to be played by few powerful people.
